Dr. Katriina Ilves | Research Scientist, Ichthyology & Zoology Section Head at the Canadian Museum of Nature

Dr. Katriina Ilves is a research scientist in ichthyology and the head of the Zoology section at the Canadian Museum of Nature. Her primary research focus is fish biodiversity in both freshwater and marine environments through the combined use genetics and physical characteristics. Prior to starting her work at the museum in 2019, Katriina was an Assistant Professor at Pace University in NYC and held postdoctoral positions at several institutions, including the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia and the Royal Ontario Museum. Katriina’s work at the Canadian Museum of Nature includes multiple research projects spanning from the local Ottawa-Gatineau region to the deep-sea waters of the Gulf of Mexico and participation in public outreach activities to share knowledge of biodiversity.
