Science Odyssey and The Million Tree Project present: A Virtual Event Celebrating Biodiversity

Join us on May 13th, 2021 to celebrate Science Odyssey and the Million Tree Project! The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is hosting two virtual webinars (one in English and one French) in partnership with Science Rendezvous and Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants. We’re celebrating the important role scientists, engineers, explorers and innovators play in making our planet a better place to live.

Come meet ethnobotanist Dr. Jonathan Ferrier, an Anishinaabe scientist studying aspects of indigenous food, medicine and culture, as he discusses his research and answers questions from viewers!

Jonathan Ferrier, PhD, BSc, BA, is an Anishinaabe scientist and Professor of Biology at Dalhousie University. He was a postdoctoral fellow and graduate student from the University of Ottawa, Department of Biology, The Montreal Botanical Garden, The New York Botanical Garden, The Ottawa Hospital, and Bruker BioSpin (inventor of the MRI). His Nishinaabe (Ojibway) Mississauga heritage informs his work in indigenous food, medicine, material culture and ethnolinguistics. He studies maternal fetal medicine metabolomics and the phytochemistry of native medicine for preeclampsia, diabetes, and cancer. Ferrier continues with research and development contributions since 2008, collaborating in 16 countries.
