January 26, 2022
12:00 pm to 12:45 pm EST
Languages are changing around the world as different groups interact and in many cases, entire languages are going extinct! Sandhya grew up living between Boston and Toronto, in a multilingual home and in multilingual communities. This experience helped draw her to study how language use and differences have shaped and continue to influence social and cultural changes in humans. As a linguistic anthropologist she has done fieldwork in Peru, Bolivia and Southern New England. Her previous research in the Southern Andes of Peru explored how languages influence each other over time between Indigenous Quechua and Aymara speakers around Puno, Peru. Sandhya was a National Geographic Young Explorer grantee and a took part in their Young Explorer Leadership and Development Program.
