Madison Smith | How Do We Study Ice?

Join Madison to learn how we study ice, what can we learn from it, and why is it important/challenging to learn about? She will be joining Leg V of MOSAiC to measure melt rates during the summer melt season on the Arctic Ocean. Rapid loss of sea ice in the Arctic is one of the most visual effects of global warming, and Madison is interested in how surface waves interact with sea ice and the possible feedbacks. With the Applied Physics Lab as the University of Washington, she has been working to understand this process in the Arctic Ocean and the Antarctic Ross Sea. She grew up in Bellingham, Washington and in her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, cooking (and eating).
