The Great Upwelling | Life in the Coldest of Places

Cold, ice and snow is not a place you expect to find life, but in the Canadian Arctic a rarely known phenomenon called The Great Upwelling bursts with life each spring. Walrus's float around on pack ice, bowhead whales cruise the icy waters looking for zooplankton, narwhal use their tusks to find arctic cod and polar bears roam the edge of this abundance of food looking for their next meal of seal. The Great Upwelling, also known as a polynya or open area of the ocean surrounded by ice, is where life erupts in the arctic each spring. Join Dave Garrow and Frank Wolf as they prepare for an epic ski trip through this maze of danger to explore one of the wildest, amazing and biologically diverse ecosystems in Canada. Dave and Frank are home grown explorers with a long successful history of travelling to remote corners of Canada, going big on small budgets. Join them as they gear up for their next adventure this May and find out how easy it is for you to be Canada's next great explorer.
