Celebrate Science Literacy Week with an expert on biodiversity!

Join us on September 22, 2020 to celebrate this year’s Science Literacy Week! Led by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Science Literacy Week showcases the many ways kids and families can explore and enjoy the diversity of Canadian science. From September 21 to 27, 2020, libraries, museums, science centres, schools, and not-for-profits are coming together to celebrate this year’s theme, Biodiversity. During this online event, you will meet a real-life biodiversity expert and learn more about the biodiversity that surrounds us!

Meet our expert: Dr. Julia Baum

Julia Baum is Professor of Marine Biology at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. She went to school for a really long time, earning degrees from McGill University in Montreal and Dalhousie University in Halifax. After finishing school she worked for 4 years as a marine biologist in California. There, she started studying tropical coral reefs. Julia loves the ocean, fish, and corals, and she is working to save them from climate change. When she’s not working, she loves spending time with her 10 year old son and being outside in nature.
