Alizé Carrère | Modern Explorer

Join Alizé as she explorers, what does it mean to be an Explorer in the 21st century? You can check out his exciting new web series with your class and then meet the star! The idea of exploring our world means something different than it did more than 100 years ago when Ernest Shackleton ventured into the icy waters of the south Atlantic Ocean. National Geographic Explorer Alizé Carrère and Lindblad Expeditions Naturalist Tom Ritchie travel to the Falkland Islands to discover what it means to be a Modern Explorer. Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!

Alizé is a National Geographic Explorer, filmmaker and PhD student researching and documenting human adaptations to environmental change. Raised in a house wrapped around a 300-year old oak tree, her childhood primed her for a unique perspective on what it means to live in a dynamic environment. In 2013, Alizé received support from National Geographic to conduct research in Madagascar, where she spent several months uncovering an unlikely agricultural adaptation in response to severe deforestation. Her work evolved into a greater story of creativity and resourcefulness amongst the oft-repeated narrative of climate doom. She continues to study innovative adaptations to climate change, and is working on a film project that highlights the remarkable resilience of the human species.
