Air Quality and Climate, Explained by Dr. Aldona Wiacek

Join us on September 21, 2021 to celebrate this year’s Science Literacy Week! Led by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Science Literacy Week showcases the many ways kids and families can explore and enjoy the diversity of Canadian science. From September 20 to 26, 2021, libraries, museums, science centres, schools, and not-for-profits are coming together to celebrate this year’s theme, Climate.

During this online event, you will meet a real-life climate expert and learn more about our climate.

Dr. Wiacek is cross-appointed in the Departments of Environmental Science as well as Astronomy & Physics at Saint Mary’s University (SMU) in Halifax. She is interested in remote sensing of atmospheric trace gases and aerosols (solid or liquid particles suspended in the atmosphere) involved in air pollution and climate, as well as in aerosol-cloud-climate interactions. Her research includes the development of ground- and satellite-based remote sensing instrumentation and data analysis techniques (retrieval algorithms and inverse theory). She has recently established the SMU Atmospheric Observatory (SAO) to characterize atmospheric composition over Halifax and improve our understanding and prediction of atmospheric processes related to air quality and climate.
