James Webb Space Telescope Drawing Contest

With their new knowledge of the James Webb Space Telescope and its extraordinary power to explore our universe, your students can put pencil to paper to draw what they would like the JWST to look for, or what they think it might find! Alien planets, distant galaxies colliding, epic cliffs of cosmic dust, or who knows what else?!? Let their imagination run wild with all the possibilities of what could be in deep space and what we’ll discover in the years to come with this amazing piece of human ingenuity!

Rules

1) Drawings are submitted on JWST mirror themed paper (see attached). Fill in the ‘window’ representing one of the telescope’s golden mirror segments with your image!

2) The image should be of something that the JWST could hypothetically find in its searching! Something space related and on a large scale! Planets, stars, galaxies, nebulas, black holes you name it! Be whimsical! Take a look at some images already captured for inspiration. Don’t be afraid to incorporate things like wormholes, alien civilizations and other things that are from science fiction (for now!)

Contest End Date: September 30th @ 5:00pm eastern

Teachers can scan or take photos of their students’ drawings, sending them to ebtsoyp@gmail.com and using the email heading ‘JWST Contest Submissions’.

Teachers, please include your name, grade, school and location in the email. You might also choose to collect all the drawings in a Google folder, sending the link to us.

You’re welcome, and encouraged to share images in advance of the contest end date on social media, tagging #NASAWebb and linking us @ebtsoyp

All submissions will be displayed on a special contest padlet and many will be featured on the social media pages of the participating partner organizations!

Winners will be announced on October 5th!
