Stephanie Archer | Sponge Reefs

Stephanie is a marine ecologist who studies the ecology and conservation of habitats created by living organisms, such as seagrass beds and glass sponge reefs. She received her PhD from North Carolina State University in 2015 where she studied the role of sponges in seagrass beds and corals reefs in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic. In 2016 she joined Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) as a Visiting Fellow to work on glass sponge reefs. At DFO Stephanie has worked to describe the food webs, species interactions, and soundscapes of the sponge reefs with the goal of better understanding this unique ecosystem which only occurs in the deep waters off the Northwest North American coast.
