Explorer Classroom | Meg Lowman

Margaret Lowman, a.k.a. “Canopy Meg” is an American biologist, educator, ecologist, writer, editor, and public speaker. Her expertise involves canopy ecology, canopy plant-insect relationships, and constructing canopy walkways. She is currently Director of Global Initiatives, Lindsay Chair of Botany, & Senior Scientist in Plant Conservation at the California Academy of Sciences. Nicknamed the “Real-Life Lorax” by National Geographic and “Einstein of the Treetops” by the Wall Street Journal, Meg pioneered the science of canopy ecology. For over 30 years, “Canopy Meg” has solved mysteries of insect pests and ecosystem health in the highest layer of the world’s forests, designing the tools of the trade- hot-air balloons and walkways for treetop exploration- as she went.
