María Triviño | Boreal Forest Ecologist

Originally from Spain, María is a research scientist at the Boreal Ecosystems Research Group (http://www.jyu.fi/berg) at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Her research interests are quite broad and related to conservation biology, biogeography and how to solve conflicts between human well-being and biodiversity conservation. She studies how management of boreal forests affect the provision of ecosystem services such as climate regulation or collectable goods (berries and mushrooms) and the maintenance of the habitats for forests species. When not doing science, María enjoy spending time with her two years old daughter and doing outdoor activities in the beautiful Finnish nature like hiking, cycling, skiing or kayaking. María holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, a Master’s degree in Marine Sciences and a PhD in Ecology. She will talk about the importance of boreal forests and the threats they are facing.
