George and Joe Go to SNOLAB

George and Joe Go to SNOLAB May 15th @ 2:00pm eastern Camera Spots Available: 6 Join me and Canadian Explorer and Adventurer George Kourounis as we head 2km underground to check out SNOLAB! We have to ride an elevator car 2kms into the Earth and then walk another 2kms to the lab! From there we'll shower down and change into clean gear to protect the lab. We'll share our experiences as well as the exciting experiments that take place in the lab.
SNOLAB is a world-class science facility located deep underground in the operational Vale Creighton nickel mine, near Sudbury, Ontario in Canada. The combination of great depth and cleanliness that SNOLAB affords allows extremely rare interactions and weak processes to be studied. The science programme at SNOLAB is currently focussed on sub-atomic physics, largely neutrino and dark matter. At 2km, SNOLAB is the deepest clean room facility in the world.
We'll be joined by Dr. Erica Caden who completed her PhD at Drexel University working on the Double Chooz neutrino experiment. As a research scientist, Erica is involved in the neutrino projects at SNOLAB as well as science education and outreach activities. She is the detector manager responsible for keeping the experiment running smoothly day to day.
