Explorer Classroom | Elizabeth Forbes

Elizabeth explores the linkages between large, charismatic, yet threatened wildlife species, like those found in East Africa, and the relatively invisible cycling of carbon throughout the ecosystems they inhabit. In particular, she wonders: what would happen to the carbon cycle if large wildlife continue to be lost at their current rates worldwide? She investigates this question at Mpala Research Centre in Kenya. In an age where continuing wildlife loss and climate change are issues of huge global importance, it is vital to understand the interactions between the two. Elizabeth is also an artist and writer, and enjoys trying to mix these passions with her career in science.
