Conservation in Action | Banff National Park

See what it takes to bring bison back to Banff National Park!
Bison (also known as buffalo) are a keystone species – meaning that they benefit hundreds of other species from bugs to bears. For thousands of years, bison roamed what is now Banff National Park. Within a single human lifetime, they disappeared. As a leader in conservation, Parks Canada started a project in 2017 to return them to the landscape to help keep the park’s ecosystems healthy and whole while connecting Canadians and visitors to the story of this iconic species.
